Sindh warns of fake pink scooty scheme

The Sindh Mass Transit Authority (SMTA) has issued an urgent advisory warning citizens about fraudulent schemes circulating online under the name of the Pink Scooty Scheme.
In an official statement, the authority clarified that all advertisements currently being shared on social media regarding the scheme are fake and not linked to the government. It urged the public to remain cautious and avoid falling victim to scams that seek to collect personal information through unofficial channels.
The advisory stressed that the legitimate initiative is being offered exclusively by the Government of Sindh. Citizens were strongly advised not to share sensitive data or documents via suspicious links and to only use the official government portal for applications.
The warning comes after the Sindh government announced a programme to distribute free pink electric scooters to women as part of its women’s empowerment initiatives. Launched on International Women’s Day, the scheme aims to provide safe, affordable, and environmentally friendly transport options.
Senior Provincial Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon said the initiative is designed to improve mobility for women while promoting sustainable transport. Selected applicants will receive electric scooters along with formal driving training and road safety awareness sessions.
The government has outlined a transparent balloting process for distribution, overseen by a committee comprising officials from multiple departments and media representatives. Interested applicants are required to apply through the official SMTA website by submitting the necessary documents.
Previously, Bilawal Bhutto Zardari distributed similar scooters to working women in Karachi, highlighting the province’s commitment to women-focused development initiatives.
Authorities have reiterated that only verified sources should be trusted and urged citizens to report any suspicious activity related to the scheme.
